Mayring: Qualitative Content Analysis
Qualitative Content Analysis. Theoretical Foundation, Basic Procedures and Software Solution
Klagenfurt, Austria, 2014
About the book: The book defines Qualitative Content Analysis on the background of the qualitative-quantitative debate in social science methodology and integrates it into a general step model of research. The theoretical basis (linguistics, hermeneutics, psychology of text processing, categorization theory) is elaborated and specific procedures (summarizing, inductive category development, deductive category assignment) are described and demonstrated with an example text (interview transcript). Quality criteria are explicated. Finally computer programs supporting Qualitative Content Analysis are discussed and a newly developed open access software (www.qcamap.org) is demonstrated.
